AP World History and Pottery
Ms. Hollye Jackson, DHS Art Class teacher, and Mrs. Melissa Patterson, DHS AP World History teacher, have team-taught their classes many times. The two teachers use their subject areas across the curriculum in many different ways. Many areas of art naturally parallel and overlap almost every area of history -- both ancient and modern.
Art projects such as canopic jars (Ancient Egypt), coil, pinch and spun pottery (Ancient Mesopotamia and other areas), and aboriginal art (Africa) are obviously historic. Other art projects such as "self-portraits as pharoahs" also fall into the history category. DHS Art Classes also incorporate writing and literature into these lessons.
The DHS AP World History Class (and regular World History classes as well) uses many different discipline areas such as literature, writing, art, timelines, and other academic areas in order to optimize learning.
Ms. Jackson and Mrs. Patterson taught an in-depth lesson on ancient pottery on Wednesday, October 1st. Ms. Jackson told the history of the potter's wheel and demonstrated ancient pottery-making methods while Mrs. Patterson detailed uses of ancient pottery by ancient civilizations, including that of chocolate drinking!
