By Clay Dollar
Mrs. Dollar's 6th Grade Math really measures up!!! Lately the 6th Grade Math classes have been learning about systems of measurement and the metric system especially. In the pictures you can see the students measuring the length of each others' smiles using a metric ruler. All of the measurements are added together, converted to larger units, and drawn as one large smile representing to total of all the classes smiles together!!! Turns out this is a pretty cool way to turn those frowns (about math and the metric system) upside down!!!

By Clay Dollar
Rain, snow, sleet or shine Historical Halloween was a success!!!! Several students took the "PLUNGE" (quite literally) to earn those ever precious "Bonus Points" despite the seemingly never ending monsoon we endured on Friday October 30, 2009. Some of our guest appearances for the day included: our 16th president Abraham Lincoln, Shakespearian ladies, a host ancient Egyptians and even a Pharaoh or two, Annie Oakley, Greek Gods and Goddesses and even Pandora herself with her famous box (we asked her to keep it closed for the day!), our very own Secretary of State - Hillary Clinton (AKA Mrs. Allen), famous writers and actors/performers such as Laura Ingles Wilder and Marilyn Monroe (thankfully no subway vents at DMS!), we even had our very own court jester to keep us laughing all day long!! Great job to the students of DMS!!!
