This is a Great Community!

With a population of about 3,200 DeWitt is a classic example of rural Small Town, America. The county seat of Arkansas County in southeast Arkansas, the town was established in 1853. Because this is a predominantly agricultural area, an additional population of residents live outside the city limits of DeWitt in the communities of Almyra, Bayou Meto, Crocketts Bluff, Tichnor, St. Charles, Humphrey, and Gillett, just to name a few.

During the summertime you'll find beautiful fields of rice, soybeans, corn, and wheat growing on family farms that reach back generations. In winter the interests of most turn to duck and deer hunting, sports for which this part of Arkansas is widely known.

The county courthouse sits in the center of "the square" in downtown DeWitt surrounded by gift shops and restaurants. The town includes a number of welcoming civic groups, churches, and industry opportunities for residents. In addition to the community activities there are number of ways to get involved through the schools. What's your niche? Find it in DeWitt!

PCCUA - DeWitt Campus

The DeWitt campus of Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas is a tremendous asset to our community and our school district. Students have many opportunities to enhance their high school education and to further their post secondary education through the programs offered at PCCUA.

While attending DeWitt High School students may receive concurrent credit for many courses offered through PCCUA. Concurrent credit is made possible by Act 1097 of 1991 which entitles public school students in grades 9-12 to receive both high school and college grades and credit. Concurrent credit may be earned in courses such as computer applications, agriculture, medical professions, welding, renewable energy, and biofuels, to name a few.

Additionally, students who graduate from DHS have the opportunity to attend the DeWitt, Stuttgart, or Helena campuses of PCCUA with free tuition and fees through the Great River Promise. Visit the PCCUA website for more information.
